Hot Mac n Cheese and a "Mommy Freak out"!

This weekend started off great. Although Brylee came down with a fever Friday, I really thought it was nothing to worry about. I just assumed it was teething. Saturday morning we woke up and she was still feeling a little feverish so we just gave her some Tylenol. Ben was supposed to go play softball but he decided to stay home with us under the circumstances. I made pancakes that morning and this was Brylee's first time to try them and she wanted no part of them :( So I squashed up a banana for her. (She loves bananas!) But again, wanted no part of those either. I just figured she wasn't hungry.

Later on that evening, Ben and I decided it was a genius idea to go out to eat! She was fussy as we were getting ready to leave but she had not napped well all day so I assumed she was just tired and by the time we got to the restaurant she would be asleep. (There I go again with that "assume" word. You know what they say about that!) Well we got to the restaurant and what do you know, she was not asleep. This dinner ended up being anything but peaceful. Usually we can find something to pacify her but nothing worked! After ordering, Ben tried to walk around with her and get her to sleep but nope, wasn't happening. We got our food and Ben told me to go ahead and eat. So I started eating as fast as I could (ah joys of mommyhood). I started eating so fast that I had no idea how hot the macaroni and cheese was going to be until I got it into my mouth and panicked. I mean jeez, I'm out in public. Had I been at home I would have very rudely just spit it back out on my plate. I tried to just play it cool (no pun intended) and open my mouth a little to try and cool it off that way but that wasn't working. So I just had to do the ole "wipe my mouth with a napkin" trick and spit it out. My tongue was scorched AND I ended up not finishing my food so that Ben could hurry up and eat and we could get out so the poor people around us could enjoy a nice quiet meal. Ben's a very quick eater so he was done in no time. Brylee was burning up by this time and I had already given her some tylenol. We got her out to the car and I decided to sit in the back with her. That's when I started freaking out a little. Brylee was just staring at me. Her eyes looked horrible and she was acting really strange. She wouldn't even hardly move. We didn't even get out of the parking lot before I had to make Ben get in the back with her. I was just too scared. I asked Ben if we needed to go to the hospital. He told me to go on home and we could give her a cool bath and what not. Then I looked in the rearview mirror and saw him looking closely at Brylee. That's when I really freaked out when he said, "Yeah, let's go on to the hospital." He started to see all these red dots on her skin. So it became apparent that her fever had really spiked. I cranked up the air to get her to cool off and right away she started acting a little more normal and her skin started clearing up. We ended up going on home, giving her some Motrin, pumping her full of cold Pedialyte, and giving her a cool bath (which she hated by the way! I hope that it didn't scar her because she absolutely loves bathtime!)

I guess this was my first real "mommy freak out" moment and I didn't handle it as well as I would have liked! But seeing my baby girl look like that was so hard to handle! I'm hoping next time, I'll do a lot better! So thankful Ben was there. He did great! She is still feverish today so I will be taking her to the doctor first thing tomorrow.

First blog!

I am finally giving this blogging thing a whirl. I've always enjoyed reading other people's and I've always wanted to start one of my own but I've just never gotten around to actually doing it. Plus I'm a person that doesn't talk a whole lot and I thought, "What would I have to say!?" Then I started thinking about all the fun stuff you experience as a mom and I always love to share everything about it so here I am, starting a blog! Besides, what else do I have to do with my time! ;)

As I'm typing, Ben is sitting beside me enjoying a little Xbox time and Brylee is in the floor playing and having fun pulling all the DVDs off the shelf! What a mess DADDY has to clean up! :) Speaking of Daddy, I was so thankful for him today when he told me to go to the church crafts fair and he would stay home with Brylee :) It was really weird because for once I was walking around with a purse instead of a big ole diaper bag! I know he was thankful for me too. First of all, I only spent $10. Secondly, I left the crafts fair $97 richer! There was a cash for gold booth there. I had no idea that when I was in kindergarten and got those 2 different rings from those little boys, I'd be getting money for them 22 years later! I also brought another ring and a necklace from my ex bfs (so thanks guys!) and a few odd earrings I had. What an easy $97!!!

On to little miss thing, Brylee has reached several milestones this week and I get prouder of her everyday! She has finally started getting the hang of "really" crawling. Before she was just doing the army crawl but she is figuring out that if she just gets those knees up, it's a lot easier to get around! Tuesday morning, I went up to get her and she was on her knees hanging on to the side. Had I waited just a couple more minutes she would have been standing and possibly trying to crawl out! Needless to say, I lowered the crib that day. Which by the way, is NOT an easy task. At first I couldn't even figure it out so I thought, she'll be okay napping in it today and we'll just get Daddy to do it when he gets home. That was until everytime I laid her down to nap, no matter how tired she was, she thought it was just much more fun to keep getting on those knees and holding on to the side. Then I realized I had to figure this out if she was ever going to take a nap. I had no idea I was going to have to unscrew the darn thing to get it lowered. I really wish I had had a camera on me during all that! As you can see from the picture, she has learned that drawers actually open. I'm actually going to get her Daddy for this one because I think he was the one that showed her!

So I'm guessing I'm going to end it right here because this is now about the 17th time that I have had to stop to do something. We'll see how this blogging thing goes. Yall bare with me now!
